"Our front porch is crumbling, and we hate that tiny afterthought of a 'master bedroom' at the back of the house" was the creative Owners' starting point in transforming a nondescript Hollywood bungalow into a luxurious home for relaxing and entertaining.

The dining room - before The dining room was pinched and dark. Darker still was the cave-like living room beyond. All this would change.	The Dining Room - After With the generous new front porch, we opened the Dining Room with new French doors, updated lighting, and spacious openings to the Living Room beyond.	Living Room detail The crumbling fireplace was rebuilt wider and higher, and with a new polished concrete hearth.
Living Room Removing the 1940’s vertical paneling and raising the ceiling to 10 feet, the Living Room is now bright, sophisticated, and welcoming. The clean, heightened walls allow the Owners to enjoy their art collection.	New Stairs A dingy 3/4 bath gave way to light-filled stars to the new second floor, including niches for more of the Owners' art collection. A new bath now serves the revised first floor guest quarters.	Media Room A feature of the new second floor is the Media Room, with fireplace and vaulted ceiling.

Demolition complete.	Preparing for the new second floor.	Steel reinforced pier Hillside properties have special requirements. The foundation was replaced to carry the new second floor load, and 24" diameter pilings were added to anchor the house into bedrock 8 - 16 feet below.
